Available again at long last…

..are the chain tensioners for the timing chain in the cih & 24V (C30SE) engines of our old Opels. – The shelves usually containing these small, yet very important, hydraulic tensioners have been empty for a considerable amount of time. These are now once again in stock and available for purchase, freshly arrived and personally laced together by the boss on his virgin thighs in the moonlight. 🙂

In total, we offer three different versions of this part:

Timing chain tensioner, reinforced

This part is suitable as a replacement in all 4- & 6-cylinder cih engines. The piston is a bit longer than on the original part. This means that it arrives at its tension-limit later and, even when the timing drive is slightly worn down (i.e. when the chain lengthens a bit, or the small clamping rail becomes shorter), it can still provide a very good service. It can, however, also be used as a normal replacement for chain tensioners that have been lost over the years, as apart from the longer piston it is produced just like the original part.

Timing chain tensioner, adjustable

This part was designed more for racing engines than for daily drivers or fair weather cars. The ‘adjustable’ in its name refers to the pistons, which can be inhibited with a setscrew. For the most part, this is necessary for load changing in revved up engines, as it is possible in these cases that with an original tensioner, the chain will be too strongly unburdened. This adjustable tensioner is something for whiz-kids, everyone else (the ordinary of us the rear-wheel-drivers 😉 ) will do very well with the reinforced tensioner (see above). 🙂

Timing chain tensioner 24V / C30SE

Yes, even the C30SE / 24V has a hydraulic chain tensioner for its primary chain. We have had this reproduced here, true to the original. When renewing the chain and rails, it surely won’t hurt to replace this part at the same time. Of course, it is important to note that the springs in the tensioner grow tired over time, or rather wear down lopsidedly.

With this post we hope to have once again brought a bit of light into the darkness, and naturally excellent parts for us rear-wheel-drive drivers onto our shelves. See you next time in the edelschmiede.
