…or: the winter break is back!
As of yesterday, for many vintage-Opel & rear-wheel-drive drivers, the wicked wintertime is once again omnipresent. The seasonal license plates have banished our Manta, Ascona, Senator and Kadetts back to the garage. My Ascona is no exception, with the active months spanning April to October. With a tear in my eye, I picked up my son Hannes from kindergarten on Wednesday, marking the last drive for the three of us for this year. Thus, it was hardly surprising that mum had to wait a little longer for us to arrive for lunch. Naturally I didn’t just pick him up; rather we made the spontaneous decision to burn a little Super Plus. After all, you can’t put a car away without getting it properly warmed up first… 😉
The summary of my first season
with the 4.0i – 24V Ascona was overwhelmingly positive: Driving this car is great fun! Which is brilliant, considering I’ve owned this vehicle for over 15 years, but never quite managed to get it finished – there was always something more important to do first. But now, I can hop in without a worry and drive over 3000km with the Ascona without a single fault or other incident. However, there is still work to be done, the car lacks a proper heating system, currently possessing only two laughable radial-flow fans under the dash. The differential transmits a bit too short. Over the season I naturally started the process of remedying these flaws; a proper water-heater with ventilation and a onger transmission are ready to go.
This is also good for the edelschmiede, as through these sorts of experiences one is constantly made aware of new and exciting ideas for what we, as Opel rear-wheel-drivers and owners, might need! The heater is a good example of this, as after I have successfully installed it, it will also become available in the edelschmiede shop.
The shop, and this is actually THE highlight of this post, will then no longer just be the vile eBay – shop, rather,
’edelschmiede goes web-shop!’
We have been working for a long time on this shopping system for all edelschmiede customers and Opel rear-wheel-drive drivers. It is going to be amazing, I promise. And what is even more amazing, is that we will be able to dramatically reduce the prices of some of products. That’s something, right?!? Here is a picture of the construction site at the moment:
I’m assuming that we will be able to ‘switch on’ the new shop in the next weeks, definitely before Christmas, and with many new items and parts. This will hopefully help to sweeten up the long winter a little…
What are your thoughts on the winter-break? Does your darling get mothballed and forgotten about until spring? Or are you more keen on long sessions in the garage with rock music and an ever-present case of beer? Leave a comment here to share your preference!
So, now I’m heading off to the workshop, so on that note: see you soon in the edelschmiede web – shop!
